Hi Gordon,
Now that the dust has settled as it were, I wanted to write to you to express my gratitude.
The burial ground has already proven to be a great comfort. Being able to grieve in a place with no sense of time, no foreboding sense of some greater power to bow down to; that just offers privacy and beauty and calm, has been a welcome relief. Strangely but genuinely I enjoy coming to Respect’s Park at Laughton, and I can’t think of a more perfect place to feel close to my Dad. For my Mother too, and the rest of the family, we are delighted to see my dear pops in safe hands, back in natural land where he came from and worked for so many years.
I wanted to thank you for your patience and professionalism in dealing with our family. You really have personally helped us through a difficult time – when we needed an answer you gave it, when we needed a sounding board you gave it and when we just needed to laugh and let something out you gave it. I’ll never forget the moment we heard Genesis on our way to the grave – yet another perfect moment for a perfect day (if such a thing is possible in this situation). I think this crazy job you have taken on requires an incredible ability to react and read people, and where so many others were letting us down – you got it right. Even down to recommending Tim your celebrant, he was perfect and did a fabulous job. The rest of the day was an emotional but beautiful moment. We shared many stories with my father’s old friends, and a few tears too.
Regarding the tip – we believe in recognising great service.
My sincerest thanks to you Gordon, and your team, and your beautiful resting place.
